Richard Juilan -
Richard Julian
Richard Juilan

Recording with Norah Jones and bouncing ideas off Bonnie Raitt is a long way from playing Vegas cocktail lounges, which was how Julian began his musical career.

But after four records and logging thousands of road miles, this mild-mannered and disarmingly charming, bespectacled artist can stop loitering in the corner of the public's eye and takes his rightful spot front and center.

Julian’s screenplay-worthy craftsmanship is a skill that’s earned him entrance to a mutual admiration society that includes artists like Randy Newman, Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt. In fact, it was Raitt who initially suggested producer Mitchell Froom (Los Lobos, Richard Thompson, Elvis Costello and many others), who signed on to help Julian shape Saturday Morning in Sunday’s Shoes.  9pm, $8.00.

Don Dixon & The Jumprabbits
w/ special guest Marti Jones

Don Dixon has devoted his entire life to the popular song. Whether working as a singer, songwriter, musician or producer, he has always tried to capture the essence of his life in the moment.  Dixon's writing, production and session credits include astroPuppees, Baby Shaker, Richard Barone, Jim Brock, Mark Bryan, Kim Carnes, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Caitlin Cary, Joe Cocker, The Connells, Counting Crows, Marshall Crenshaw, Pat DiNizio, The Edison Project, Fetchin Bones, GB Leighton, The Golden Palominos, Guadalcanal Diary, Hootie and the Blowfish, In Tua Nua, Marti Jones, Tommy Keene, Let's Active, James McMurtry, Moxy Fruvous, REM, The Red Clay Ramblers, The Smithereens, Snagglepuss, Ronnie Spector, The Spongetones, Chris Stamey, Matthew Sweet, The X-Teens and dozens more.

Marti Jones was initially a member of the band Color Me Gone, who recorded one EP for A&M Records in 1983. Her first solo album, 1985's "Unsophisticated Time" (A&M), was produced by Don Dixon.  Some of you may ask, "If she was so influential, why don't I know about her."  Truly restless and eclectic, she made records that required your attention and often had jarring juxtapositions, but were always musical and catchy. Consequently, she was too commercial for the radical, too radical for the radio. Most critics agreed she was just a little ahead of the curve. Indeed, she was not an easy fit anywhere and A&M never found a way to break a single or ignite the imagination of the MTV generation.
Tickets are $10.00.  9pm.

Peter Tork of The Monkees
(with his band) -
The Monkees, Peter Tork
Peter Tork (right) & The Monkees
A folk musician before joining The Monkees, Peter played musically around the world with several bands, and has recently released several CD's partnering with James Lee Stanley and Shoe Suede Blues.

After auditioning hundreds of hopeful ‘Moptops’ for a new TV show, they found four young men,  Mike Nesmith, Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, and Peter Tork.  The Monkees had arrived.  The Monkees spent many years at the top of ‘Pop’ tree.  Since the band first spilt up in 1969, there have been reunion tours, new TV and album recordings and reruns of the original TV show. Proving that The Monkees are still significant of the current music scene.

Like the other members of The Monkees, Peter Tork stayed committed to music since their official demise. Peter has formed new bands, recorded as a solo artists and toured with The Monkees for the reunion shows.  Tickets are $15.00.  Michael Jantz opens the show at 9pm.

Anthony Gomes &
The New Soul Cowboys -
Anthony Gomes, New Soul Cowboys, country, rock, blues
Anhony Gomes & The New Soul Cowboys
Anthony Gomes, the award winning, acclaimed tough-rockin' soulful singer-guitarist and his rough ‘n’ tumble Nashville-based outfit, are taking on the world.

Drawing on the musical core that links blues, rock, soul and country, he’s joined by the New Soul Cowboys, featuring bassist David Karns, drummer Peter Lang and keyboardist Dylan St. John.

“First and foremost, we are Southern Rock,” Gomes says. “We mine rock, blues, country and gospel in our soul sonic force.” The bands' scorch and riot sound is definitely right in line with the best of Southern Rock past and today's rockin' country. In fact, a Soul Cowboy alumnus is none other than that Redneck Woman herself Gretchen Wilson, right out of the Nashville “Music Mafia.”  Tickets are $15.00.  9pm.

The League, Prope Musicians, Prog, Progressive, Funk, Rock, Latin
The League of Proper Musicians
The League of Proper Musicians is a group of deciduous troubadours hailing from everywhere. They are releasing their FIRST CD EVER here at The Winchester.

All members of the group are adept at arranging notes into both written and improvised patterns. Members of the League take an oath upon joining the group. First, all music will be fabricated in an attempt to move people's mind, body, and/or soul. Second, no one in the group will get an Emo haircut. Third, and most important, it's sexy time all the time (there have been rumors of children actually being conceived at League concerts.)

What results is a blend of Funk, Fusion, Latin, and Progressive music that sets the League apart from their peers while keeping them accessible to both the average music fan as well as schooled musicians.  Tickets are $10.00 and include a copy of their CD.  9pm.

"Behind the humor lurks a musical master."
Sydney Morning Herald (Australia)

JORMA KAUKONEN RECORDS BOOK BINDER SONG ON LATEST ALBUM... "STARS IN MY CROWN"

"Nobody writes in the idiom better than Roy Book Binder. He is a master player, singer, writer and teller of tales… true tales. He wrote THE PREACHER PICKED THE GUITAR and passed it on to me. It is an honor to include it here." Jorma Kaukonen 2/16/07

"Book Binder is one of the finest blues finger pickers active today."
- Blues Review Magazine.

ROY BOOK BINDER, is a Blues Singing, guitar picking, song writing raconteur, and has been for the past 30 years! Roy has been interviewed by Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air, featured on the Emmy award winning segment of the PBS TV series EGG Art in America, and appeared more than 30 times on Ralph Emory's highly regarded TV series Nashville Now.

Book Binder has been included in THE BIG BOOK OF BLUES, as well as THE BLUES WHO'S WHO!! Roy has been continually touring across America in his tour bus, which has been his home for the last thirty years, as well as performing internationally.

Back in the early 1960s, Roy learned his craft from the legendary blind street singer, Reverend Gary Davis, who was thrust into the national spotlight when Peter, Paul, and Mary recorded his song "If I Had My Way." After two years of traveling the folk-blues circuit with his mentor, Roy struck out on his own. Along the way, he befriended Pink Anderson, an old Carolina medicine show performer (who by the way was the "Pink" in Pink Floyd, while Floyd Council, another Carolina bluesman, was the Floyd.) Pink's stories and songs will forever be kept alive as long as Roy has a stage to perform on...

Roy has toured with Bonnie Raitt, Hot Tuna, and J.J. Cale. He has been invited to many festivals including: The National StoryTelling Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Chicago Blues Festival, and MerleFest where he has hosted the acoustic blues stage for the past twelve years.  Guitarist Pete Cavano opens the show.  Tickets are $15.00.  8:30pm.

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008.
Eric Lindell
- Stellar, sublime blue-eyed soul and romping New Orleans R&B, played at the same intersection of soul, blues and roots rock as Van Morrison. --New Orleans Times Picayune

Born in 1969, Lindell is an "old soul" from California reinventing New Orleans R&B. He has a cool, genuine old school aura that is both natural and refreshing. Eric does his own thing in his own way and at his own pace. His melodic sensibility and fresh approach are most impressive.-OffBeat
Tickets are $12.00.  9pm.

BMZ -
BMZ, Bacha, Clearlight, Kiss
BMZ performing at The Winchester
The three piece rock band BMZ features Jim Bacha on Bass and vocals.  Jim is a Cleveland music veteran and has been in such bands as Clearlight and Insanity and the Killers.  BMZ sounds like a modern day KISS with a classic rock sound and tight lead guitar lines.  The original music they play was recorded at one of their past shows at the Winchester and released as a Live album called, appropriately enough, LIVE at the Winchester.  You can pick that release up tonight.  It has made it into radio play lists across the country and across the ocean as well.  $5.00.  9pm.
